Residents have grown increasingly frustrated with the Aromas Community Center Foundation (ACCF) and its handling of the park project, particularly its lack of transparency and financial accountability. Many in the community have voiced their concerns, yet bafflingly, a handful of local philanthropists have chosen to stand by a board that has repeatedly failed the very people it was meant to serve.
The controversy surrounding ACCF extends beyond mere inefficiency. Reports have surfaced of board members engaging in unacceptable behavior, including the verbal assault of Aromas Youth Soccer Club (AYSC) members at Aromas School. One board member was even reprimanded for taking unauthorized photographs of children at a soccer event—an action that raises serious ethical and privacy concerns. Another board member has been openly quoted as believing that women should “know when to talk and when to just listen,” an archaic and deeply troubling sentiment in a community that values equality and respect.
Despite these red flags, some members of our community are inexplicably choosing to support a board that has consistently worked against the best interests of our children. The same board that refuses to prioritize building a playground—an essential space for children to play, learn, and build friendships—is the one that some still defend. These same board members have also made it difficult to maintain an affordable youth soccer program, an initiative that has long served as a positive and unifying force for Aromas families.

At the heart of this debate lies a crucial question: What kind of legacy do we want to leave for our children? Will we be remembered as the community that stood up for its youth, ensuring they had a safe and vibrant place to gather? Or will we be the people who turned a blind eye to mismanagement, allowing tax dollars to be wasted and opportunities for growth to be squandered?
Those who continue to shield ACCF from accountability must ask themselves whether they are truly acting in the best interest of Aromas. The community will remember who stood for positive change and who defended those who failed to deliver it.
The people of Aromas deserve better. Our children deserve better. The time for complacency is over—it’s time to demand real leadership and a park that reflects the values of our community.
